Are they being attacked by bandits?
I don’t like bandits, but I acknowledge they’re smart enough to target others on a rainy day. Their sound is muffled and the target’s movement is hampered.
There are four wagons, four adventurers, but twice as many bandits (eight).
There is a male swordsman, a male spearman, and two female mages, but I think the bandits have the upper hand.
After looking around a bit, I noticed that the bandits are not much stronger, but the adventurers’ coordination is terrible.
If the swordsman and spearman are pulling back, they should attack with magic, or if the swordsman parries the bandit’s sword, the spearman should attack, etc., right? I want to say.
Why are they fighting without working together?
It seems that each of them has a certain amount of ability, but they will lose if they don’t work together.
I pull out my sword and decide to help the two female mages first.
I intervened between the bandit and the mage and cut one of the bandits in half, putting him down.
When the other one got scared and dropped back, I jumped in and took him down with a thrust.
When the bandit had gained some distance, he shouted to the female mages,
“Now! Attack with your magic!” (Louis)
“”Can’t (None)! Out of magic!”” (Female Mages)
“Got it!” (Louis)
I immediately fired a series of Magic Arrows at the bandits’ legs.
When the three of them fell down, I said, “Huey! Please!” I called out to him and let him bind them up with the hardened mucus.
The first two and now three, which means there are three more to go, but the swordsman and spearman are taking on one each, so where’s the other one?
I invoked my probing magic, and there he was! He was trying to crawl up into the carriage.
I pulled a stone out of storage, launched it in a curved trajectory, and smashed it into the bandit’s back.
I heard a smacking sound with a voice crying “Gya!”.
That’s exactly what I was hoping for. He won’t even be able to stand up with that.
The next one was closer. The spearman was dealing with the bandit’s attack with his spear, but they were in a deadlock.
I then summoned a water ball about the size of a Boston bag and smacked it against the bandit facing the spearman, the bandit was smacked hard on the back and the spearman was now able to knock him down.
I thought the spearman was going to help the swordsman, but he stayed in his place just catching his breath.
That’s it? You won’t go and help?
Like the spearman, the swordsman is able to handle the attacks, but he is also in a stalemate.
Just like when I helped the spearman, I hit the bandit with a blob of water to distract it, and then the swordsman slashed the enemy from the top, his sword killing them.
“Huey, go and capture the guy who just fell from the carriage.” (Louis)
(As you wish.) (Huey)
That was quite the laid-back reply, I waited for a moment, and then he picked up the bandit wrapped in mucus and threw him in front of me.
The four adventurers froze and had a meeting.
The female mage ran alone to the carriage, and the other three approached me and called out,
“We’re the E-rank party Tiger’s Roar. Thank you for the assistance. Thank you for your help. I’m Alan, the leader, and this is Keith, a spearman, Vinnie, a mage, and Margot, the one who went to the wagon to report.” (Alan)
“I’m Louis, an F-rank adventurer. I’m Tamer. This is my familiar Huey.” (Louis)
“The name’s Keith. Nice to meet you. Thanks for the save.” (Keith)
“I’m Vinnie. Thank you very much. I’m out of magic, so I was just trying to protect myself.” (Vinnie)
As we exchanged greetings, Margot brought someone over.
“Hello there, I heard you’ve come to our rescue. I’m Omar, the leader of this caravan and a merchant.” (Omar)
“I’m Margot, and I was quite terrified when Vinnie and I had run out of magic. Thanks for your help.” (Margot)
“I’m Louis, an F-rank adventurer. I’m a Tamer. This is my familiar and Huey. What are we going to do with the living bandits?” (Louis)
Alan spoke to Omar with a bitter look on his face.
“If we can get them to the capital alive, the bandits will be worth a bit of money, but there is no room in the wagon, is there?” (Alan)
“Yes, unfortunately, there is no room in the wagon.” (Omar)
Keith interjects from the side.
“The last bandit we caught is a wanted man. His name is Wallace.” (Keith)
If the wanted bandit is taken to the Royal Capital, the party will earn money, but if escort duty is a priority, there is no other way but to release them, or dispose of and bury them.
So, the party wants to take them, but the caravan cannot take them.
“I’m sorry to interrupt, but if it’s close to the capital, why don’t you let the bandits walk, or if it’s going to take a few days, why don’t you think about repacking and making room for them?” (Louis)
I suggested, and Omar countered.
“The luggage is loaded to the limit of what the horses can pull, so that’s no good. It takes about a day and a half to get to the capital by horse-drawn carriage. It would take an extra day at walking speed. It would be nice if they could carry the luggage, but they won’t be able to escort us, right?” (Omar)
I think Omar is right. But I’ve got something handy, but I’m not one of them…
But just in case, why don’t I ask?
“I’m not an escort, so we can part ways as we are, but if Omar-san says it’s okay, you can leave your cargo in my Magic Bag as I accompany you. Besides, don’t you need time to let your escorts rest, especially those who are out of magic? So what do you think?” (Louis)
Omar replies with a big smile.
“You have a Magic Bag? It’s an item every merchant would want. I’m sorry to have to ask for your help, but I don’t have a contract with you, so I can’t pay for your escort. But I will agree to carry the bandit instead. How much of the wagon load will fit in the Magic Bag?” (Omar)
“I think it could carry the load of a single carriage. I don’t want anyone to say that I stole anything when I return the items back, so I would like you to make a list of the items in the wagon and I will check them as I store the items, does that work for you?” (Louis)
“A carriage? Are you a nobleman? I don’t mean to pry, but you’d better not disclose that from now on. You can store the wagon that contains only a single type of product.” (Omar)
Come to think of it, I heard that a capacity of over 5 square meters is considered a national treasure.
Actually, it can hold as much as I want because I only pretend to put it in my Magic Bag but I actually put it in my [Infinite Storage].
“I’m not an aristocrat, and it was given to me, so please stop exaggerating exaggerate. And tell me about the wagons.” (Louis)
After receiving instructions from Omar-san, the inventory from one of the wagons is stowed away and the bandits are thrown in once it was empty.
The bandit leader was a wanted criminal named Wallace.
He looked at me and blurted out with a dark expression, “Damn, it’s just a brat…”
Well, I understand. It’s the way I look, right?
Four of the eight bandits were dead.
One was the leader and three underlings, for a total of four, but one of the remaining is a wanted criminal and we can receive an additional bounty, so the five of us, including me, had to decide on our share.
Since I was the one who caught him unscathed and the Tiger’s Roar members were not able to go and capture them on their own. They would not argue back if I insisted on getting all the bounty, but I offered to split it evenly among the five of us.
The members of Tiger’s Roar thanked me profusely, holding my hand and shaking it excitedly. It is cash, I guess.
I just didn’t want to spend the rest of the trip feeling bad about it, so I figured I’d give some to them.
Besides, consider it a fee for information about magic.
The rain had stopped after we threw the bandits in, so I suggested that we take a break and have a cup of tea before we left.
I boiled water and made tea for them.
The caravan consisted of five people, a coachman for every wagon, including Omar, then the four members of the Tiger’s Roar party, and myself, for a total of ten people.
“Please have some tea.” (Louis)
All of them said it was delicious.
They said the sweetness permeated their bodies, but I thought it wasn’t very sweet.
After a short rest, we decided to leave, and there was more than enough space for the four bandits in one wagon, so we decided to let Vinnie and Margot rest on the wagon as well.
If they rested without moving, their magic power would be restored.
Since it was not my duty to escort them, I tried to talk to Vinnie and Margot for a while, but Vinnie called out to me.
“Hey, Louis, do you use fire and water magic too? I do, too. Your control of the water volume, then there is that fire magic you used when boiling water, you can use intermediate level, can’t you?” (Vinnie)
“No? That was [Water] and [Fire] from Life Magic. I have no aptitude for Water, Fire, Wind, or Earth Magic.” (Louis)
“What? Is that really Life Magic? How can it be with that quantity and control? What’s going on?” (Vinnie)
“What’s going on? I used Non-attribute Magic to move the water, and…” (Louis)
“So that’s why you were using Magic Arrow. Come to think of it, you used it chantlessly, right?” (Vinne)
I said that I could use Non-attribute Magic without chanting, but that I was actually using it without knowing much about magic. So if there is anyone in the Royal Capital who could teach me about Non-Attribute Magic, I would like to get some information.
“I’m afraid I don’t know. And while there may be people who can use magic with the attributes of fire, water, wind, and earth, I’ve never met anyone who has anything other than the four major attributes. What about you Margot?” (Vinnie)
“I also don’t know.” (Margot)
“I see. It would be great if there was some kind of facility that could teach me the basics of magic.” (Louis)
“There might be some outside the kingdom of Sunsberg. You can ask at the Adventurers’ Guild. But if you keep doing that, you’ll run out of money and won’t be able to make a living. Well, good luck.”
Vinnie answered with a frustrated expression as if it was becoming harder for her to answer.
But well, I learned that there was a possibility that the guild in the Royal Capital could tell me.
“Please tell me one last thing, Vinnie-san, how much magical power does a Sacred Dragon have?” (Louis)
“What? How would I know? The probability of us being alive at the moment we meet the dragon is zero. There is no way we can know the amount of magic power they have.” (Vinnie)
So that’s how it is. The conversation ended but at the fourth cast of [Exploration], I perceived something.
“It looks like the enemy. I’m off.” (Louis)
I called out to the coachman to stop the carriage, and when I glanced at Wallace, the bandit, as our eyes met.
Wallace grinned and muttered,
“I see help is on the way. Looks like the tables are turned.” (Wallace)
He mumbled with an evil look on his face, but I pretended I didn’t hear him.
We were the second car in the line, and when the carriage we were riding in stopped, the ones behind naturally stopped.
Using [Physical Enhancement] on myself, I ran to catch up and stopped the carriage in front of us.
I called out to Omar-san, Alan, and Keith.
“There are four enemies about a kilometer ahead of us. Two are hiding on either side of the road. Wallace muttered something about help coming. Vinnie and Margot have not recovered their magic power, so it will be difficult for them to fight. Shall I go with you?”
Alan gave me an uncertain reply.
“Escorting is the job of us Tiger’s Roar. If you want to help, you can guard the caravan.” (Alan)
“My [Exploration] perceives no one around except the enemies a kilometer away. Are you sure?” (Louis)
“Don’t worry. Just knowing where the enemy is and how many people are in the caravan will give us an advantage. We’ll take care of it.” (Alan)
“Okay, I understand.” (Louis)
After I saw him off, I told Omar-san,
“I’m going to tell Vinnie and the others about the situation. If a new bandit comes near, don’t hesitate to get rid of the bandits we’ve caught.”
“Oh, I understand. Please do.” (Omar)
I told Vinnie and others about the situation and I ran too.
