The next morning, I packed up, had breakfast, and headed to the guild.
The first thing I did was to find out if there was a library in the guild, as in Lotus Town.
The order would be the guild library, then the public library, and then a bookstore in town.
I asked at the guild and found out that there is no library in the guild because there is a proper library in the royal capital.
I immediately went to the library from the guild, presented my guild card, and was let in.
And there was a peculiar smell.
That’s it, a dog kennel outside? It smells like a kennel.
It might be because many of the books are not on paper but on parchment.
When I told the receptionist that I wanted to browse books on the origins of the country and books on magic, I was first told that there were rules about browsing.
-Do not bring in anything that can be written on.
-Do not tear the pages. Do not rip out the pages.
-Do not take anything out of the book.
-Browsing must be done at the desk in front of the librarian at the reception desk.
If you deviate from the reading rules, tear pages, or take them out without permission, you will be severely punished.
I don’t want to be severely punished, so I vowed to browse the book while observing the rules.
First, I asked the librarian to find a few books on the origins of the country and started browsing at the desk.
To be honest, I don’t really care about the origins of the country itself; what I want to know about is the social situation here and elsewhere, but since there is no TV, radio, or newspaper, I have to lower the level of information I want.
But I found some.
There are three continents, the Dragon Continent controlled by dragons, the Central Continent controlled by humans, and the Green Continent controlled mainly by beasts and humans.
On the Dragon Continent, there are mostly dragons, with some humans and beastmen.
On the Central Continent, there are a few countries with human races, the exact number of which is not known.
On the Green Continent, there is a country for each sub-race of beastmen.
What can I say, it seems, that there are countless countries?
There are five kinds of dragons: Light Dragons (Sacred Dragons), Dark Dragons (Black Dragons), Water Dragons (Blue Dragons), Fire Dragons (Red Dragons), and Earth Dragons (Gray Dragons)… The Sacred Dragon is the king among the dragons.
I wondered why only the Sacred Dragons were based on color, but I learned that this was the way it was.
The Green Continent has a king for each race, and they are called the King of the Land of the Cat People, King of the Land of the Dog People, King of the Land of the Wolf People, and King of the Land of the Rabbit People. The interaction between the different races is very active, and as the name of the continent suggests, it is a very green continent. In other words, it is a diverse(rich) continent.
Is it too much for common people to believe that the cost of living might be low?
The central continent is ruled by humans, but there seems to be constant strife.
There are about 40 or 50 countries on the continent, but seven of them are the most powerful: the Kingdom of Ekran, the Kingdom of Rakaz, the Kingdom of Espanes, the Kingdom of Varadier, the Kingdom of Avrigny, and the Kingdom of Ktevr. All of them were proud of their strength
Naturally, a country that is said to be powerful has a large area and is armed with military might.
I want to live in a peaceful country so that I don’t have to fight with others as much as possible.
By the way, the current Kingdom of Sunsberg is not a strong country, but it seems that it is not weak, and it seems that it is standing around without being attacked by a strong country by taking advantage of the land. However, if you think you need a strong country, there is no doubt that you will attack with force.
The reason they have not been attacked for many years may be that they have a king with excellent political skills and a close advisor, but I, as an adventurer, will have nothing to do with them.
This is all I can tell from the situation.
I carefully return the books I borrowed to the librarian, and then ask her to bring out the books that contain information on magic.
But they said that was too broad a scope and asked me to narrow it down.
I wanted to know the basics of magic, its classification, and what it can do, so I put my head together and chose the right words to convey what I wanted to know.
“Do you have a book that discusses the classification of Attribute Magics?” (Louis)
“Yes, please wait a moment.” (Librarian)
With that said, they brought back a thick book and a thin book.
To be honest, I don’t feel like I can read them all, but I decided to read them one by one.
The first book was a thick one titled “A Guide to Magic,” apparently written by a professor at the Royal Academy of Magic in the Kingdom of Ktevr.
There was a little written about the classification I wanted to know.
The attributes are divided into the four major attributes of [Fire, Water, Wind, and Earth,] and the next attributes of [Holy, Darkness, and Non-Attribute], and each is magic of beginner, intermediate, and advanced…
Magic is basically said to affect the target by converging magic power to attack, constrain, or recover natural phenomena.
It seems that the Holy, Dark, and Non-Attributes are treated rather exceptionally, and it is understandable that my attributes are said to be rare.
For example, if you converge the magical power to develop the phenomenon of [Fire] and hit it against the target, it will become a Fire Ball or Fire Arrow, but if the magical power is highly pure and activated, the power will increase…
It is similar to the way that the explosive power of gunpowder increases with the amount of gunpowder, but since the magical substance called magic has no mass, it can cause extraordinary phenomena if it is used in a convergent or even compressed manner.
In this book, some names of attribute magic are also written, but it was basically given to enhance the image, and it was written that if the image is strong, no name is necessary…
However, magic that ignores the aptitude of attributes cannot be used.
I have already demonstrated this by the fact that I cannot use the magic of the four major attributes.
And this book did not describe what could be done with the magic of the Non-Attribute, Holy Attribute, and Darkness Attribute at all, but only described them as a classification.
The fact that it is not even written in this kind of book means that Holy, Darkness, and Non-Attribute must be really rare.
If there is no information after reading one more book, I will have to repeat my own trial and error while looking for hints from other books in different genres from time to time.
The second book was titled “An Introduction to Magic” and was written by the same professor of the Academy of Magic.
This is book is very thin and flimsy.
I flipped through the second book, but as expected, there was no mention of Holy, Darkness, or Non-Attribute.
What was that? Maybe if I researched and wrote a book as a user…
I don’t have time for that. I shook my head and cleared my mind.
I thanked the librarian and asked her to find me a book that describes the attributes of Holy, Darkness, and Non-Attribute, but she said she would look for it.
I bowed my head and left the library, saying that I would visit again later and ask for a favor.
I’ll just have to build them up one by one over time with trial and error.
