I stayed the night in Perche Village, the third village after leaving Amphenel, I heard about the recent increase in the appearance of monsters in the vicinity. They were not in a situation where they can send a request to the Adventurers Guild to take them down, but I was told that they have formed a village patrol in the village to patrol the area at night.

Out of curiosity, I asked if I could accompany the patrol group. I asked, and the innkeeper said he would ask, as he was sure everyone would be happy to be accompanied by an adventurer.

They immediately said yes, and I agreed to meet in front of the village meeting place after supper and accompany them.

Sometimes night watch is a little different and exciting from the daily routine, right?

Four men from the village were going to make the rounds with torches and spears.

It was a cloudy night with no stars, and without light, they might go off the usual path. When I arrived at the meeting place, the village men were waiting for me, but as soon as they saw me, they warned me about my light clothes, not even carrying a torch.

“Hey, kid, however skilled you may be, how are you going to find the monsters without a torch?” (Villager)

“Don’t worry. I want to keep my hands free in case I have to fight…” (Louis)

I replied and cast [Searchlight] without chanting.

Everyone exclaimed, “Oh!” The man who had warned me was surprised and apologized to me, but I told him that it was natural for him to warn me and that there was no need for an apology.

Since I did not know the patrol route, the two villagers took the lead, with me in the center with [Searchlight] in front and the two villagers walking behind me.

I followed the villagers as I always do, but I didn’t feel any monsters in the village.

The route was said to be a circuitous route through the village and along the road to the street, but about 100 meters out from the village, a presence was sensed by [Exploration].

“In front of you, 300 meters ahead, there are two monsters, Red Boars.” (Louis)

At my words, the march came to a halt, and the villagers asked me what they should do. The villagers began to consult with each other, their voices filled with anxiety. We don’t have time to consult, do we? We have two choices: retreat or attack.

“I’ll go. Everyone, please retreat quietly to the village so as not to be noticed by the Red Boars.” (Louis)

Hearing his words, the four men immediately started running toward the village.

I had heard that the Red Boar was a mutated Giant Boar, characterized by its red fur and that its meat was better than that of the Giant Boar.

I double-deployed my Magic Shield and increased the number of [Searchlight] to two.

I moved forward slowly, and after about 100 meters, the Red Boar seemed to notice me and came at me at top speed.

A single Red Boar can weigh more than 300 kilograms, and if I hit me without Magic Shield, I would surely die instantly.

I was used to fighting them through my travels, so I was able to deal with them without panicking.

I took out 10 short iron spears from my Infinite Storage and struck them both horizontally.

Both of them were skewered from head to butt and fell prey to the spears before they reached me.

I retrieved the spears and searched the area around me and found a Poison Viper 200 meters in front of me.

The Poison Viper was a venomous snake about five meters long, with fangs that could be used as material.

I approached the Poison Viper by running, and when I shot a Magic Arrow from about 50 meters in front of it, it seemed to have hit its torso and came toward me wearing an angry air.

Unlike Psychokinesis, I must say that Magic Arrow’s accuracy is low.

I controlled the five iron short spears I had just recovered and launched them at the Poison Viper.

I skewered it in four places (head, two on the torso, and one on the tail) and stitched it to the ground to finish it off.

With my Vampire Knife, I drained the blood from the two Red Boars and the Poison Viper and threw all the iron short spear into the Infinite Storage, and I cast [Exploration], but no hits.

I went back to the village and found the villagers gathered in front of the meeting hall, armed to the teeth.

“Um, I defeated the Red Boars. A Poison Viper appeared after that, so I also subjugated it.” (Louis)

To put it lightly, the villagers raised a commotion with an expression of “What?”.

“No, you didn’t just casually kill monsters like that, did you? Two are Red Boars. Also, a Poison Viper?” (Villager)

“But I’ve already finished subjugating them. I’ll show you the monsters I took down.” (Louis)

I took two Red Boars and a Poison Viper out of my Infinite Storage and showed them to everyone, and told them that I had killed them on my own and did not need a reward for killing them, but that I would bring the monsters I had killed to the guild taking them with me.

Once again, I heard the villagers exclaim, “Oh!” I was to hear exclamations of admiration from the villagers.

I told them that I did not sense any other presence after the subjugation, once the crisis was over, I did not know what the future held but it would be better to monitor the area with a village patrol if they thought it was necessary in the future.

The next morning, while Huey and I were having breakfast at the inn, the village chief, Orville, came up to me and thanked me for last night’s patrol, asked me to show him the monsters again, and asked me to investigate whether there was a dungeon in the area.

I told him frankly that I was a D-rank adventurer, but that I was not familiar with the guild system and was not sure if I could accept a request that did not go through the guild.

Chief Orville told me that in the past, he had requested quests that did not go through the guild from adventurers who happened to be in the village, and that I could report the request to the guild at a later date.

He told me that requests not going through the guild are different in that the guild cannot get a hold of the adventurer’s current location, there is no guild fee, and the reward is determined by the parties involved, so there should be no problem if the request is not going through the guild.

He did want to make the request directly to the guild. However it would be difficult for a villager to travel from this village to the town where a guild is located to make the request because of the time and expense involved.

After discussion, I decided to accept the investigation request.
