A/N: The names of the Fungal Classes “Fixers” and “Emitters” will be changed to “Healers” and “Illusionists” after this post.

*I will be making the changes to the past versions of the series after tomorrow. However, there is a batch replacement function for the whole text.

*Additional Note: I will also be changing the higher-rank Fungal Class of “Illusionist” from “Witch” to “Mage”. This is to align the normal with “Illusion” to the higher rank with “Magic”.

8/22: Noa’s Fungal Skill’s name was changed from [Binding String] to [White String].

In addition, there are some additions and tweaks to the Fungal Skills and Fungal Classes, so I will also revise the past posts (especially around chapters 33 to 39) in accordance with the contents of this post.

Fungal Skills and Effects

The ability to manipulate and exercise mycelium in the body (Fungal Skills) can be broadly classified into six systems.

The aptitude of which of these is the strongest is called a Fungal Class.

There are six types of normal Fungal Classes and five types of Higher-Rank Fungal Class in which more powerful and varied Fungal Skills can be learned.

 1. Ability to harden Fungal Skill to make weapons (called “Hard Hypha,” Hypha Weapons and Armor).

—[Katana] [Warhammer] [Round Shield] [Dagger] etc.

Fungal Class: [Knight] Higher Rank Fungal Class: [Holy Knight]

 2. Ability to create variable and manipulable mycelial objects (called “Soft Hypha” and “Hypha Manipulation”)

—[White String] [Avatar] [Sticky Thread] etc.

Fungal Class: [Craftsman] Higher Rank Fungal Class: [Puppeteer]

 3. Ability to strengthen and change the body with mycelium inside the body (called “Physical Manipulation Skills”, etc.)

  —[Leaping] [Hearing] [Self-regeneration] etc.

Fungal Class: [Fighter] Higher Rank Fungal Class: [Beast Warrior]

 4. Ability to create mycelial bullets (called “Hypha Bullets” or “Mycelial Bullet”)

—[White Bullet] [Spiral Bullet] [Curved Bullet] etc.

Fungal Class: [Sniper] Higher Rank Fungal Class: none

*[Sniper] itself is said to be a higher rank.

 5. Ability to disperse spores with various effects (called “Spore Dispersion” or “Dust Skill”)

→ [Sensory Spores], [Beast Repellent], [Charm], [Life Spores], etc.

 6. The ability to create cocoons of mycelium with various effects (called “Mycelial Balls”, “Ball Skills”)

→ [Fireball] [Holy Healing] [Thunderball] etc.

In the above 5 and 6, Fungal Classes are categorized as follows according to their specialties.

Specialized in attack or cause negative effects.

Fungal Class: [Illusionist] Higher Rank Fungal Class: [Mage]

Those that cause positive effects, such as healing, purification, or strengthening of others or oneself.

Fungal Class: [Healer] Higher Rank Fungal Class: [Sage]

*Why are [Illusionists] and [Healers] not classified as “those who are good at mycelial balls” or “those who are good at spore dispersal”, but as “their efficacy and role”? —A clear conclusion has not been established.

*One theory is that all Fungal Skill holders have the ability to create small mycelial objects such as hypha balls and spore dispersal, and ‘Illusionists’ and ‘Healers’ are different. It is also said that it is the quality that enables the synthesis of its inclusions.

*In that case, however, it would be difficult to explain why a “Healer” can use [healing] but not [Healing Spores], or an “Illusionist” can use [Fireball] but not [Burning Spores], etc.

Fungal Skills That Can Be Acquired

[Knights] mainly learn the First System, but can also learn other Systems, depending on their qualities. For example, Noa, as a [Craftsman], learns from the First System [Dagger] and the Sixth System [Lightball], and Kure, as a [Fighter], learns from the First system [White Armor].

The way to confirm these aptitudes is to use a Test Sheet, and if the blood pressed to the paper extends in multiple directions, there is a possibility that “other systems than the main one” can also be learned.

However, in normal Fungal Classes, the rare ability from a System other than the main System (“high-cost ability” as Shuu and Aomoto call it) basically cannot be learned. Only Higher Rank Fungal Classes can achieve this.

The Higher Rank Fungal Classes may be able to acquire rare or unique Fungal Skills in the main System, or reasonably rare Fungal Skills in other Systems.
