Jiro Tanaka: 28 years old – Single – No Girlfriend

Occupation: Dungeon Tester (Regular Employee) + Recruiter

Magical Aptitude: Eight (General Class)

Job Title: Warrior

I started full-scale recruitment today.

I was dressed in a business suit, wore magic detection glasses, had a job flier in my bag, materials I had received permission from Supervisor Evia to prepare, and even a business card holder in my breast pocket.

I had my ID with me to avoid being questioned, so I was sure there would be no problem.

What I was doing could be mistaken for some kind of dubious solicitation, but it would be better if I didn’t go in that direction.

That’s what I was thinking.

Yes, I was. Past tense.

“I was not expecting this.” (Jiro)

I guess I have the look of a loser now.

I threw myself down on the back of a bench in a park near the station and slurped down a cup of coffee from a vending machine to soothe my tired legs after walking all day.

I look like an office worker who is tired after a long day of work and wants to have a smoke in the park before going home.

“What’s going on that I can’t find a single person with magical aptitude?” (Jiro)

In addition, if I were to compare it to sales, I would also add that I’ve had zero success in visiting my sales clients.

The last time I went out for a drink, there weren’t many, but if I walked around a bit, there were certainly some.

And this time, I went to Shinjuku, Harajuku, and Akihabara, where I thought they would understand and be knowledgeable in the fantasy and game fields, but I came up empty.

I took the bus, the train, walked around, and looked around, being careful not to become too discerning, but I couldn’t find anyone.

I had lunch at a maid cafe, thinking that maybe they were just passing by and I could find them if people were moving slowly, but I ended up eating an omelet with a lot of strange looks from people who were probably regulars.

The lunch ended up being mentally exhausting, but with zero results.

And with a full day of activities planned for today, there was still a lot of the afternoon left.

It was an act of self-imposed shame and mortification, but the result, which left me with nothing but ruminations and regrets, definitely lowered my motivation to work.

However, I couldn’t just throw away the afternoon’s work just because I was feeling down.

If I threw it away, I would be saddled with a debt that would come back to haunt me.

So, I somehow managed to get myself together, whipped my slowing steps into shape, went back to the same place, visited the places I hadn’t been to yet, and somehow managed to find my way around while exercising my company spirit.

Then, in a last-ditch effort, I staked out the area around the station and searched among the people passing by.

The results were evident from the fact that I was sitting on a bench slurping down a cup of coffee.

Not a single flyer had been handed out, and the only time I had to open my bag was to take out my wallet.

Of course, I don’t have a chance to use the business card in my breast pocket.

“…Oh, what should I do?” (Jiro)

I stumbled from the start of the first day.

I’m not sure if I should change my ways or if I should just tweak my approach a bit.

My gaze follows the magic drifting around me like purple smoke.

There was a student in a blazer, probably on his way home from shopping, walking through the purple smoke in front of me with an eco-bag in his hand.

And the magic power that extends as if to follow him.

“Hey, you there!” (Jiro)

It was a spur-of-the-moment reaction, calling out to the male student as he jumped up from the bench.

“…you mean me?” (Student)

I may not be able to speak for others, but I thought he was a boy with bad eyesight.

Also, he was very short.

And the voice he gave me sounded like he wished it wasn’t him.

“Oh, I’m sorry to stop you so suddenly.” (Jiro)

He looked at me as if he were looking at a suspicious man, which was uncomfortable, but now that I had spoken to him, I might as well go as far as I could.

If they think I am being too pushy, I can just back off.

At first, I tried to talk to him in a sales tone so as not to make a bad impression.

“This is who I am, and I’d like to talk to you for a minute if you don’t mind?” (Jiro)

I pulled out a business card from the breast pocket of my jacket, thinking to myself that it would be suspicious if someone who had just been lying around on a bench suddenly jumped up and called out to them.

Along with that, I made sure that the magical power is entering his body as I peered behind the glasses.

“MAO Corporation, Tester Division, Jiro Tanaka… Is this your real name?” (Student)

“That’s my real name. Here’s my driver’s license.” (Jiro)

I was suspected to be using a pseudonym for my name since I looked like I’m from somewhere, but if I show my driver’s license, it will paint a somewhat different impression.

I’m sure that revealing your identity will gain you a certain amount of trust.

There may not be many people who would normally go this far, but what I’m about to do is clearly more suspicious. The more credibility I can gain, the better.

“So, what can I do for you, Tanaka? I’m in a hurry.” (Student)

Even so, the difference in trust may be as small as the difference between an acorn and an egg.

He’s probably a serious boy, contrary to the atmosphere.

It seems that he cares enough to listen to me.

Then I should get on it.

“Oh, I’m a recruiter. As it says on my card, I’m looking for testers for our facilities. I was wondering if you could help me.” (Jiro)

“Recruiter? It looked like you were slacking off.” (Student)

“Well, it looks that way, doesn’t it? Yeah, I’ve been walking around all day. It would help if you think I was taking a break.” (Jiro)

That’s actually true, but to someone who doesn’t know anything about these words or the situation, it would sound like just an excuse.

“Let’s keep this short then, your parents will be worried if we talk too late. Would you like to take a look at this flyer?” (Jiro)

I didn’t feel much of a response, so I originally decided to give him the flyer for the job.

“…Are you recruiting for a game?” (Student)

I could tell that he was struggling a lot to keep his words clear.

But this confirmed that he was a person with magical aptitude.

To be honest, I was relieved to know that I could not help but be regarded as a crazy person the moment I showed him this.

As far as I can see from this angle, the appropriate number is written as five.

It’s a good enough number.

“In a way, I guess it is. I’m proud to say that if we’re talking about physical experience, it’s as good as any kind of attraction. Well, as it says “tester”, there are dangers. Probably more than you can imagine.” (Jiro)

There was no need for me to explain the dangers here, but I decided that it was better to explain than to keep silent.

In fact, since we were going to be putting our bodies on the line and giving it our all, it was no less powerful or thrilling than a safer attraction.

In fact, since they were actually going to fight, it would be better to tell them first than to find out later, which would lead to more trust later on.

There is a guarantee of life, but there is no guarantee of exposure to trauma in this workplace.

It’s a shame if I don’t get a chance to work with them, but it’s better than tricking them into coming and ruining the relationship.

“Can’t you believe it?” (Jiro)

“I don’t know, honestly.” (Student)

“It’s understandable that you don’t believe me, because there’s no doubt in my mind that there are some crazy things in there for normal people to see. I’ll give you a copy of the document, so if you’re interested, please contact me, and if you mention my name, they’ll direct you to me.” (Jiro)

“Understood.” (Student)

It would be helpful if you could obediently put the materials and leaflets in your bag.

It would be a shock to put it in the trash can.

“Do you have any questions?” (Jiro)

“I think the content is full of questionable stuff.” (Student)

I want to say that it is reasonable, but I urged him to go ahead.

“Why was I chosen?” (Student)

It’s a natural question to ask.

If this was a scout for an idol, I could say he was a talented person or had good looks.

I’m not sure how to tell that he has an aptitude for magic power.

It will sound like I’m joking and he’ll tell me I’m crazy.

“…would it be faster to show you?” (Jiro)
