~3rd Person Perspective~

Lieutenant General Ziggurat carefully observes the opening created by Sicily from the fortress.

Watching the situation through a crystal ball is Expana, a Priest of the Demise Cult. He declares to his men.

“You must capture this scene with your own eyes. It is not often that a princess of a country dies on the battlefield.” (Expana)

Expana said with a wistful look on his face, but his prediction was wrong.

Ziggurat took all the pictures in his office and toss them in the fireplace and said.

“Let’s go to battle. We can’t afford to waste the opportunity that the princess has created for us.” (Ziggurat)

The moment he heard these words, Expana became furious, but after a few moments of wide open-mouthed laughter, he understood.

“Even an evil god couldn’t bring that man to his knees?” (Expana)

 “Oh well”, he continues.

“The Veteran General of Ernia, I have seen the righteousness and love for your country in you. I would have let you off the hook if I wasn’t a member of this cult, but I have my place. Don’t think bad of me.” (Expana)

He then gave orders to his subordinates in the Royal Capital of Ernia. Talking to Maxis and the military leaders. And also to those guarding Ziggurat’s wife. –The men do so with blank expressions on their faces.

Sicily had no idea that such a plot was being hatched. But that was fortunate. If she had known, she would not have been able to attack the enemy with such courage.

“Because she didn’t know anything”, Sicily was able to fulfill her responsibility as a princess.

Lieutenant General Ziggurat, on the other hand, knew everything. He knew what would happen if he were to defeat the imperial army here. He knew what would happen if he rebuffed the evil cult’s threats, and he acted on that knowledge.

It was for the sake of this country, for the sake of this future, but it was too painful a price to pay.

Without showing the inner turmoil to his subordinates, Ziggurat gave them the order to charge.

“The princess has worked tirelessly to create this gap! Is there anyone in this division who would be so stupid as to waste it?” (Ziggurat)

Of course, there wasn’t one. The soldiers of the Earth Division do not fear for their lives and charged.

The Imperial troops were exhausted from the daily night raids and the long siege. Their formations were deep, but they melted as if they were cutting through cheese with a hot knife.

Ziggurat himself took the lead, and with his mighty spear, he beheaded the general of the Imperial Army.

According to the testimony of one of the surviving Imperial soldiers, they looked like a band of demons. It was such a brilliant assault, but the bravery did not go unrewarded.

It was not that they were unable to penetrate the enemy forces.

Rather, the imperial army was split in half, and it looked like they could surround one of them. The troops in the battle were so close to the enemy’s bunker that they knew they had failed.

The reconnaissance unit that had discovered the enemy supply bunker, the report that came from them was unexpected.

“I found the supply depot, but there are two of them!” (Soldier)

The moment Ziggurat heard the report, he realized his defeat and death. He knew he was defeated and dead.

The Imperial Army had found two bunkers, one of which was cleverly hidden. It seemed to have been built in secret so that they would not be aware of its presence.

They knew that their lifeline was the supply depot, and that’s why they had taken double measures to protect it. Apparently, there are some smart people among the Imperial soldiers.

It was an impressive feat for an enemy army, but Ziggurat didn’t care much about it.

In the 40 years that he had been in and out of battlefields, it had been a regular occurrence for a strategy that had been formulated in theory to be overturned on the battlefield. At this point, as a commander in the field, he could only do his best.

He also believed that his life was no longer escaping the danger and that this battle would be his last. It was uncomfortable to take his men with him, but he still shivered at the thought of ending his military career on the battlefield in the face of a large army.

Ziggurat changed his plan and half surrounded the imperial army on one side that was split in two. He decided to put pressure on them and exterminate the imperial army by force.

Ziggurat’s brilliant strategy worked, and he succeeded in crushing half of the Imperial forces.

When he heard that his men reported that there were only 15,000 left, Ziggurat said, without changing his expression,

“You have done well, my loyal and brave soldiers of the Earth Division. Now all we have to do is to make peace. Send peace envoys!” (Ziggurat)

Hearing these words, the staff members opened their mouths wide.

Some of them questioned the meaning of Ziggurat’s words. Some of them misunderstood it as a code.

“General, what are you talking about? We’ve crushed half of the Imperial Army. We’ve crushed half the Imperial Army, and we’re going to crush the other half. There is no point in making peace.” (Soldier)

“Yes, there is. If we give the enemy this much damage, they will surely agree to peace. If we surrender the fortress, they will promise not to attack us for six months.” (Ziggurat)

“That’s impossible. If we do that, we will be court-martialed. We can win.” (Soldier)

“That’s why. We can win. But it’s not enough to just win. We want to keep the Earth Division intact to counter Maxis. That’s why we’re making peace.” (Ziggurat)

Ziggurat argues that the imperial army can take peace now, and challenge the remaining fifteen thousand to a decisive battle but even if they win, they will suffer heavy losses.

Then, he said, they should make peace and conserve their troops.

This argument was correct both strategically and politically, but it was not accepted by the soldiers in the field. Despite fierce opposition, Ziggurat forcefully sent a messenger for peace.

Some of them openly complained that our lieutenant general was sparing their lives, but when they learned the lieutenant general’s true intentions, one of the officers punched him in the face.

“What was that about!?” (Soldier)

The officer who was hit protested, holding his cheek. The officer tried to hit him back but stopped when he noticed that the officer he had hit was in tears.

“Lieutenant General he, Lieutenant General he…” (Punched Soldier)

The officer continued to cry, letting out such words.

The meaning of the officer’s tears will be revealed a few hours later.
