The next day, bread, fried eggs, and vegetable soup were served for breakfast.

The bread was already at the same level as the bread I make and the fried egg was a hard type that was cooked well. I thought that the half-baked food I had eaten in my previous life was still edible because I had a firm concept of hygiene.

Still, just the fact that the bread was soft made me feel as if my meal had been upgraded.

It was a little early to go to school, so I stopped by the guild and asked the guild master for a copy of a booklet published by the guild and part of the guild’s own monster encyclopedia, and then left for school.

Before class, I had a meeting with the two teachers to discuss today’s lesson.

The first class was mine, so they were to sit in the back and observe.

Of course, I was allowed to observe their class.

I told them that I requested Principal Sennett to have the guards teach swordsmanship, spear arts, and archery yesterday, and that in exchange the guards would negotiate to rent the school grounds as a training ground on afternoons when there were no students there, and that I had received permission to build a dormitory on the grounds.

The two of them said, “What?” and asked how they could build it at no cost to the school just like Principal Sennett. I told them that I would use Earth Magic to build it.

Maggie-sensei, who uses earth magic, said with an exasperated expression, “That’s usually a few senior mages doing it for a few days”, but I just replied that they should just observe and not worry.

It was time to leave the meeting and go into the classroom.

The students looked at me with surprised expressions, perhaps because I was the one who stood on the podium.

“Good morning, everyone. I am Louis, a temporary teacher. I arrived in the Kingdom of Ktevr from the Kingdom of Sunsberg via the Kingdom of Avrigny, and I have been asked to teach here by a request. It’s only a short period of one month, but I look forward to working with you…” (Louis)

They don’t even respond to my greetings.

“Since it’s your first day here, I’d like you all to tell me about yourselves, not about me, so one by one, please give me a brief self-introduction and tell me what kind of adventurer you’re looking to become. Now, please, let’s start with the person at that end of the window.” (Louis)

I nominated the person by the window.

“I’m Vince, fourteen years old, and I can use fire magic. I have a little confidence with swords. I’m trying to become an A-rank adventurer. But I feel that school is a waste of time. Even now, I’m frustrated that I have to call a kid younger than me a teacher. That’s all.” (Vince)

“Yes, thank you. I’m short, but I’m 15 years old, I’m older than you. It’s great that you’re aiming for an A-rank. Why do you think school is a waste?” (Louis)

“Because there is nothing to learn.” (Vince)

“I see what you mean. Thank you. Next up.” (Louis)

“My name is Courtney, I am 14 years old, and I can use Holy Magic and Water Magic. I think I have more magic than others, but I don’t really know how to use it. Like Vince, I have nothing to learn and I feel it is useless. I feel like I am wasting my time and money coming from the countryside and staying at an inn to go to this school.” (Courtney)

“Did you come to this school to learn how to use magic?” (Louis)

If so, I thought you should be looking for a magic school, as well.

“I don’t expect much in the way of magic, but I feel like I entered this school to find adventurers my own age with whom I can form a party after graduation. I don’t like the fact that the only people who call on me at the guild are strange old men.” (Courtney)

“I see. I understand well. Thank you, next person please.” (Louis)

The self-introductions that followed were similar, and I was confronted with the fact that the class was boring, that they didn’t feel like they were learning, and that it wasn’t interesting.

“Now that we have heard everyone’s self-introductions and what kind of adventurer they want to be, we will start the class in earnest after the break. By the way, remember that I’m in charge of teaching letters and calculations in the classroom.” (Louis)

“Don’t be silly! Adventurers don’t need math, you know?” (Vince)

Vince snapped at me with an angry look on his face.

“I want you to know that being an adventurer isn’t just about being physically active. When you go to the inn, the first thing they ask you to do is to write your name in the inn book. If you can’t write your name here, they might think you can’t do the math and rip you off. Why don’t you think about the possibility that someone might cheat you out of your change when you buy something at a store?” (Louis)

“How is that possible?” (Vince)

“That’s just not thinking. A careful adventurer always thinks about the next thing. Those who can’t think about what’s next die first. That is the adventurer’s world. That’s why I, along with the other teachers, are going to teach everyone what they need to know.” (Louis)

 The classroom fell silent.

“Then my lesson is over. In ten minutes, it will be time for Teacher Micah’s swordsmanship lesson, so don’t forget to get ready for it.” (Louis)

With that, I got off the podium and headed for the staff room.

When I entered the staff room, two teachers came in and gave their impressions, but both of them had dark shadows on their faces.

“I’ve never known what the students are thinking before. It makes me reflect on what I had been doing.”

 Micah’s expression showed frustration.

“It hurt my ears too. I’ve been wasting all our time.” (Maggie)

Maggie also had a complicated look on her face as she reflected on the situation.

“You two, let’s teach our students about adventurers from now on. If we can make them want to take the next class or really want to become adventurers, you two already won.” (Louis)

“”Yes.”” (Micah & Magi)

We now have an understanding, so we headed to Micah’s swordsmanship class.

Before the class began, I told Micah that I had something to tell him.

 Micah’s class soon started.

“Now we are going to start the class, but first you will run three laps around the school grounds. After that we will do some exercises to stretch your joints and then we will use the wooden sword.” (Micah)

“Why do we have to run?” They asked annoyance flowing through their tone.

“Listen. Adventurers often use a lot of physical strength. It is also a fundamental part of being an adventurer to avoid taking time to move around. To do that, you need to build up your strength by running, and you also need to get used to continuous running. And if you stretch your joints before moving your body, you are less likely to get injured. Remember that.” (Micah)

Micah glanced at me after he told everyone in a loud voice.

Though I had told them beforehand, he still gazed at me asking if it was okay, I gave a small nod and a thumbs up.
