“I see. So that is why you came back. It’s good to be cautious, I guess.” (Storeowner)
I am in the general store again.
I am at the general store. It is the only place I could think of. Where I could buy things, I might need for the dungeon.
“That’s why I was wondering if you could help me find some things that I might need in the dungeon?” (Rook)
“Hmm … but it depends on your role.” (Storeowner)
The store owner put his hand on his chin and thought for a moment, then picked up some items from the shelf and put them on the counter.
“I’m pretty sure you are going solo in the Beginner Dungeon, right? A water bottle would be the first thing you would need. Also, some pencils. You can choose between paper and wood boards. You don’t need a knife and a lamp, do you?” (Storeowner)
I replied, “Yes, I do not need those.” I look at what the storeowner prepared for me.
The water bottle seemed to be made of wood, with a large opening, a cork lid, and a string attached. The pencils were not like those found on Earth but were a size or two thicker and are more difficult to write with.
“If you are going to the beginner dungeon, you would usually need these. There are preserved foods there, but you probably do not need them for now.” (Storeowner)
“How much is all of these?” (Rook)
“A water bottle is two silver coins. A pencil is three copper coins. A wooden board is one copper coin. A sheet of paper is three copper coins.” (Storeowner)
I see. I guess you could say it is reasonable. The paper is expensive, but I guess that cannot be helped.
I bought a water bottle, pencil and three sheets of paper as recommended by the store owner, I thank him and leave the store.
By the way, I am low on money. It might be dangerous if I do not try to earn money seriously.
Immediately after that, I headed to the dungeon, and now I am back at the crossroads.
“Light, illuminate my way [Light source].” (Rook)
Something flowed from the center of my stomach towards my hand, and a ball of light appeared on my palm. If I imagine moving it above me, the light ball will move as I imagined. It seems that it will follow automatically when I move.
When I first came here, I forgot to use the [Light Source]. When the owner of the general store asked me, “Do need a lamp?” I remembered that I could secure my light with the [Light Source] spell.
I should think of something else.
Taking out the paper and pencil in my pocket, I write a staircase mark and write a cross on it.
I decided to simply use a line to represent the passage. With this pencil, it is hard to draw fine details, and it is hard to write many things with a pencil and with paper on the other hand.
Well, time to go to the passage on the right for the time being.
Turning right at the crossroads and after a while, there was a dead-end, and the passage continued to the left. If I go further along that passage–
“… Hmm?” (Rook)
It was another dead end.
Well, there will be something like this. When I tried to return. I notice that a puddle at the dead-end is rippling.
“Oh… maybe slime…?” (Rook)
As I approached the puddle, I noticed that it was not just water, but also a translucent bluish color.
Hmmm, does this mean it is a slime? Is it?
When I got a little closer, it suddenly stopped rippling and slowly moved towards me. The moment the distance is close enough, it jumped straight at me.
I swung the cane in my hand while moving my upper body to avoid the attack.
The slime was flicked by the cane, colliding against the wall. It slid down the wall and got sucked into the floor like it was melting.
I was surprised at the weak attack.
“… Did I defeat it? … Eh… Defeated already?” (Rook)
It was a reflex attack, and it was defeated. It is difficult to determine whether it is because I am strong or the slime is weak.
There is no doubt that my current physical ability is clearly higher than when I was on Earth, probably because my race has changed, or because of the influence of skills, but I do not know how potent their effects are.
I took a closer look at the spot where the slime had disappeared and found something small on the ground.
When I approached and picked it up, there was a dark reddish… no, dull purplish color, and an ellipsoid stone of about 1 cm (0.4 in) in diameter.
“Is this… Is this a magic stone?” (Rook)
I heard from the receptionist of the guild and the adventurer at the bar. Apparently, it can be used, as fuel for magic tools and for making medicine. It seems that it has various uses; it can also be sold at the guild.
I put the magic stone into the backpack and start walking towards the first crossroad.
This was my first battle in Tesla, so I carefully turned around the corner.
