Next, among the special
abilities, we will consider the abilities that are of concern.
(Do I need the Deadly Force if
I make an effort to avoid such a situation? …No. In a normal campaign, it
should be set up just about right for the character’s level. That means you are
likely to be in a situation where you will have to use Deadly Force. Let’s acquire
this as well) (Yataro)
Then, consider which of the
remaining Previous Life Memories, References, Ambidexterity, One-hit Kill,
Magical Combat, and Guardian Spirits to choose from.
(I’m not sure I understand the
use of this thing called Previous Life Memory. I feel like it’s somehow bad
manners to bring modern knowledge into the game, but does this mean I can use
it in a major handicap? The 50 CP is a pain, but it seems like a lot of use. “Reference”
seems to be more restrictive, but there are uses for it. It was cheap at 10 CP.
I don’t want Ambidexterity. I’ll think about it later if I have extra CP. The
Guardian Spirit is 200CP. Level-dependent and too expensive. I don’t know how
to use Magical Combat, but its magic power is high, so I’ll hold off on it.
Now, the problem is the One-hit Kill…) (Yataro)
I was shaken by the sound of
the words “One-hit Kill” and the brief description.
(The critical rate is usually 1/50th
of the normal hit rate. Since the Magic is high, there is no problem even if I use
about 1,000, and if the Martial Arts level is 10, this alone will increase by
100%… Right? When it says a hundred percent increase, it is talking about the
critical rate, right? Is it just one in fifty becoming one in twenty-five? It
would be useful if my Martial Arts level goes up, but I’m not sure if that
matters to me as I’m trying to become a magician… but if I want him to be like
an Assassin… I would have bought it if it wasn’t for the 100 CP consumption…)
(Yataro)
I gave up the One-Hit-Kill for
crying out loud and chose eight special abilities for now: Toughness, Disease
Resistance, Poison Resistance, Mental Resistance, Enhanced Eyesight, Deadly
Force, Previous Life Memory, and Reference, and spent 140 CP.
(310 so far. I can still use
it. Let’s spend about 300 on Martial Arts and Other Talents…) (Yataro)
I decided to choose Martial Arts
for self-defense and Other Talents for situations other than combat, such as
gathering information in the city.
(First of all, the Martial Arts
system. After all, I can’t not take the “Unarmed Combat” for bare-handed
self-defense. Also, there are the classic “Sword Arts”. I also want
“Archery” for long-range attacks, but I have magic for long-range
attacks, so I’m not going to take Archery. Let’s do it! Yeah! The important
thing is to not be attacked. For this reason, I want to raise Evasion as high
as possible…) (Yataro)
For now, I will allocate 5 for
Evasion and 1 each for Sword Arts and Unarmed Combat.
(Talent level 4 is the closest
to the average CP consumption. 3 already uses 40 CP, but the highest attainable
level is incomparable to the other two, and I feel that 1 and 2 are beneficial
enough. I guess 2 is for when I want to speed up the learning process and 1 is
for things, I want to hold onto for now…) (Yataro)
So move into the section on Other
Talents.
(I think the term “Body
Art” is a bit abstract. How is it different from Status Body Control?
…Even if you have an athletic physique, you can’t become a gymnast just with
that. Oh well, I’ll hold on to this guy because it will help with spur-of-the-moment
actions when I think about the inside of a dungeon. Other than that, Trapping,
Detection, and Stealth are essential abilities in dungeon exploration, I guess.)
(Yataro)
Looking at the rest of the talents,
I consider things like traveling and gathering information, and select the talents
I think I will need.
(After that, the only ones
that might be useful are Horsemanship for traveling, Negotiation for gathering
information, Swimming in the event of falling in a body of water, and Animal
Training, which might be useful for using animals. …… I wonder if the Memorization
Talent would be a positive correction when judging based on hints. …… Calculation
may also be useful in solving riddles… but this is a “Proficiency”.
If it would have to be acquired as a skill, it might not matter if you don’t
have the Talent.
Then I will review Production
Talents just to be sure.
(Considering food security,
I’d prefer to have Hunting and Herbology. They are both things that are common
in adventurers’ requests. But they’re also just Talents. It might be useful in
the beginning, but when I grow up, my Combat Skills will be more useful. Let’s
give up on those.) (Yataro)
Allocate five to Evasion in
Martial Arts, and one each to Sword Arts and Unarmed combat.
I gave up on Production-related
Talents and allocated 3 each to Body Arts, Presence Detection, and Stealth, 2 to
Trapping, and 1 each to Horsemanship, Animal Training, and Negotiation in Other
Skills.
I spent 260 CP in Martial Arts
and Others.
The talents I acquired are
listed as.
Martial Arts: Sword Arts 1, Unarmed
Combat 1, Evasion 5
Magic: Mastery of All Magic Talents,
Improved Magic Efficiency, Magic Defense
Production: None
Others: Body Arts 3, Horsemanship
1, Animal Training 1, Negotiation 1, Detection 3, Stealth 3, Trapping 2
Special Abilities: Toughness,
Disease Resistance, Poison Resistance, Mental Resistance, Enhanced Eyesight,
Deadly Force, Previous Life Memory, References
Even after acquiring all these
talents, the CP is 570.
(I got Evasion to five, so
it’s like shooting magic in a flash while evading. I’ve acquired the Talents necessary
to live, and next is the Birth Environment. First of all, is it my social class?)
My Birth Family’s social class
ranges from Royalty to the Slave class.
(I definitely don’t want to be
born a slave. The handicap is too heavy. I want to have some social class, as
long as it’s not a slave, it’s good. After that, it’s just a balance between
the Birth Family and the Household Environment. Even if I became a farmer, if
the Household Environment is “Rising”, there would be no problem with promotion,
and so I should only avoid a Slave Birth Family. Well, it’s a small price to
pay if you consider it insurance.) (Yataro)
I used only five CPs to
disable numbers below five.
Then I rolled the dice with my
usual enthusiasm.
*Rolling, rolling* …The
numbers that came out are “0” and “3”.
(Oh no! If I hadn’t used CP, I
would have been a slave. The insurance is a good thing…) (Yataro)
Since the number was below the
cutoff number, the roll was reshuffled.
I reroll it again with all my
might.
The number that came up was
“71”.
The lowest class, still he
became a knight within the ruling class.
(Okay, that’s good! I am born
in a knight’s household. Maybe I should review my Martial Arts Talents later?)
(Yataro)
Next, decide on the Household
Environment.
(It’s a knight’s house, so as
long as it hasn’t “Fallen”, we’ll get by.) (Yataro)
I used 30 CPs so it’ll be more
than thirty.
And the result was 38 “Declining”.
(Damn! I spent 30 CP, but I only
got 38. I feel like I’m wasting my saved points. Well, let’s just say that the
character setting is a declining knight’s household, so he became an adventurer
in order to rebuild his house on the brink of falling.) (Yataro)
I took it lightheartedly as I thought
about it.
Then choose the Place of Birth.
(From the capital to the
uninhabited wilderness, huh? There’s no explanation for this either. Common
sense would tell me that the capital would give me an advantage in terms of
educational opportunities and connections. Worst case scenario, the unexplored wilderness
could be my knight’s home; it’s not worth the CP.) (Yataro)
I chose not to use CP.
And the result was the “Frontier”
with “33”.
(…a knight’s house on the
edge of the frontier, in the midst of ruin. The hero sets out in search of fame
and fortune. Isn’t that the perfect setting…?) (Yataro)
The Birth Environment is set,
and the remaining CP is 205.
(Now, let’s raise the Status.
Well, I’m from a family of knights, so I’ll review the Martial Arts section
first?)
Then I look at the Martial
Arts section again.
(Should I raise the sword to
three? After that, I’ll take Shield Defense as well. Yes, that’s right. I
should also raise knife-throwing to three. I’ll also add Throwing Arts to the
list. Is this forty-five? Now I have 45 CPs. There was a Magical Combat that I
put on hold. I’ll acquire that as well.) (Yataro)
And the Talents I chose were.
Martial Arts: Sword Arts 1, Unarmed
Combat 1, Throwing 1, Shield Defense 1, Evasion 5
Magic: Mastery of All Magic Talents,
Improved Magic Efficiency, Magic Defense
Production: None
Others: Body Arts 3, Horsemanship
1, Animal Training 1, Negotiation 1, Detection 3, Stealth 3, Trapping 2
Special Abilities: Toughness,
Disease Resistance, Poison Resistance, Mental Resistance, Enhanced Eyesight,
Deadly Force, Previous Life Memory, References, Magical Combat
It became this.
(That’s 140 CP left. Let’s see
if I can raise the Status…) (Yataro)
I decided to read the
instruction manual again to determine what I needed to do to improve my Status.
The explanation of how to
acquire Talents and Skills said that if you are an adult (15 years old in this
game) or older when you start the game, you need to ” acquire” them
through “training” in order to use them at the beginning of the game.
It also stated that skill
acquisition through training requires a favorable family environment (wealthy
family with a teacher) and successful training.
Success in training at an
early age is judged by a number at or below Mental Endurance. The number of
times training is conducted is up to the number of Endurance per year.
(This means that the speed of skill
acquisition in training during childhood depends on Endurance and Mental
Endurance…A person who has a strong body and perseverance will be able to
complete the training. That feels strangely realistic… Both of them are low
on my character. I’ll go out on a limb and raise both…) (Yataro)
First of all, I would first
raise my endurance from 20 to 80 and my mental strength from 41 to 80.
(After that, I’ll either
improve my weaknesses or develop my strengths. I have enough Talent, so I
should use up the rest of my CP to raise my Status.) (Yataro)
I think so, and make Strength
35 to 50, Reflexes 82 to 90, Body Control 83 to 90, Magic 96 to 100,
Intelligence 99 to 100, and Craftsmanship 45 to 50.
I decided to add the extra 1 to
Charisma and raised my Charisma from 81 to 82.
The final numbers were:
Strength: 50, Reflexes: 90, Body Control: 90, Endurance: 80, Magic: 100, Mental
Endurance: 80, Intelligence: 100, Craftsmanship: 50, Appearance: 87, and
Charisma: 82.
The list of Talents I acquired
is,
Martial Arts: Sword Arts 1, Unarmed
Combat 1, Throwing 1, Shield Defense 1, Evasion 5
Magic: Mastery of All Magic Talents,
Improved Magic Efficiency, Magic Defense
Production: None
Others: Body Arts 3, Horsemanship
1, Animal Training 1, Negotiation 1, Detection 3, Stealth 3, Trapping 2
Special Abilities: Toughness,
Disease Resistance, Poison Resistance, Mental Resistance, Enhanced Eyesight,
Deadly Force, Previous Life Memory, References, Magical Combat
Use up all character points
and check again.
(A status average of 80. Five
Sigma, two status points for every hundred thousand up to six status points for
every thousand. Nothing is below average. What a cheat. He’s rich in talents,
and he’s a very worthwhile character to raise.)
The moment I thought that I
was slumped on the top board of the kotatsu. Then, my consciousness became
cloudy again.
A/N: I wrote it while laying my hobbies out in the open.
I thought it might be too
wordy as I write it, but I didn’t want to erase it, so I still posted it.
